We will be heading straight to Microsoft Ignite the Tour in London next week from our Sydney and Hong Kong tech ventures. The upcoming event will be held at the renowned ExCeL exhibition centre, on February 26-27, 2019. Getting Around London
If you’re new to the London area, here is a top tip for getting around. London is well-connected with its Public Transport and Tube system, but, for a new user, this can be quite daunting. One of the best ways to get around is by using the City Mapper app, which enables you to simply navigate your way to your desired location, and gives you a few options on how to get there with average time and live service reports.
What to do in London whilst at Microsoft Ignite the Tour?
Whilst the ExCeL is an impressive exhibitor location and has a few restaurants and bars open during events, it’s not a metropolis of things to do. If you and your Ignite the Tour team want to experience something new or celebrate a successful day, I would recommend embracing London life and catching the tube to some of London’s hot spots.
Food & drink recommendations
London is deceptively large and it can take a long time to get to what appears to be a short distance, meaning trendy East London is more easily accessible. For dinner, I would head over to Dishoom in Shoreditch, an upscale Indian Street food restaurant with a buzzy atmosphere and cool décor. It serves Indian Tapas-style dishes bursting with flavor and perfect for sharing amongst a group if you all want to try a bit of everything. Expect aromatic, hearty-flavor heaven from their variety of curries and side dishes. Make sure you also check out their cocktail list where they bring an Indian kick to traditional favorites. They also accommodate all different dietary requirements, so this is a great choice for a team. The restaurant is a 40-minute tube or 20-minute Uber away, I would recommend booking a table as this is a very popular restaurant (often with big queues outside!)
Alternatively, Boxpark is another hip location with a unique dining style, you and your team can head over to. The clue is in the name with this one as all the restaurants are in shipping containers giving it a ‘box-like’ look. The food options here are endless from some of the best independent restaurants in the city. They serve anything from Greek delicacies to juicy Devonshire burgers, authentic Seafood Italian and to finish, oozing over-filled bubble waffles. As you’re not limited to sitting in one restaurant, you can enjoy your pick from whatever shipping container you like in their central dining area. It’s a great choice if your team all like different cuisines and can’t decide on what to have. You can’t make reservations here, but there are plenty of seating areas to avoid disappointment.
Duck & Waffle
If you’re looking to go somewhere more upmarket and flash with your team, head over to the 40th floor of the Heron Tower to Duck & Waffle. This stunning, sky-high restaurant’s view has food to match, where you can get started with some of their superlative and inventive small plates. I would then recommend going for the signature dish of ‘Duck & Waffle’ which is an abundance of different flavors. Alternatively, they have other critically-acclaimed dishes accommodating for all different dietary requirements, you can see here. The restaurant is open late, so if you just wanted to pop in for a drink and posh bar snacks to enjoy the skyline you can.
