When using Enterprise Vault for File System Archiving, you run into the issue, that traveling users might want to copy archived data locally. This is normally not a problem, because the placeholders work transparently to the user. If the user tries to copy whole folders recursively you might run into the issue, that
a) The copy will fail because EV set’s per default limitations how many Items the user is allowed to recall in a particular timeframe (e.g. 20 Items per Minute) As well setting the overrides to this behavior is a huge risk, because the fileserver might get unresponsive.
b) Your Fileserver might fill-up, because the items are by default restored to the Fileserver.
These issues are what Local-File-Transfer addresses. It’s a smart “copy” Tool, which you easily can deploy to your users, and it allows selecting Source and Target Drives/Folders maintaining a Windows Explorer experience.
When starting the copy process, it determines which Data in the Source-Folder is already Archived (a EV Placeholder) and recalls the item directly to the users Workstation without having the need to restore data on the Fileserver – or to override limits. Of course, not archived Data is copied as well.
The whole Tool is multithreaded and very fast.
